Essex Churches

Welcome all visitors, new and regular! The site now contains a total of 6461 images from 442 churches. Click HERE for more details.

Maybe you have come here to see photos of some local churches for your wedding? Your child's christening? Your own baptism? Or perhaps you are researching an ancestor's funeral? Whilst I cannot offer assistance with any day-to-day or research activities, I do hope that my collection of images helps your quest in some small way.

The site is a mixture of older and newer pictures - by both myself and other photographers. However, I no longer accept unsolicited submissions for inclusion, as the workload of adding other people's pictures as they arrive is just too high. My older church pictures (between perhaps 2002 and 2008) were all added to the site at the now seemingly miniscule size of 460 pixels on the long side. I now add high quality church photographs at 800 pixels - partly due to a site overhaul, and also due to the shift in technology since the early days (originally, I catered for 800x600 screen size minimum).

I intend to encompass all churches of any architectural note in the county of Essex. However, I started the project with a rather strict criteria for inclusion, which was Church of England, 1930s or earlier. Already, due to my own dissatisfaction with the restrictions that decision imposed, I have widened the range to cover any Christian church of any period - with the only real stipulation that it must have some serious architectural interest. Churches that look like overgrown houses or DIY stores with a cross on top need not apply! Sorry, but that's just the way it is!

Please take a look around and (hopefully) enjoy your visit! Please also consider joining the Essex Churches Yahoo! Group (free membership).

The website is supported throughout by Google Ads. I hope that I have placed them unobtrusively enough. I realise that many people dislike adverts on web pages, but to be honest, sites do need to pay for themselves somehow. £140 per annum is not a huge amount of money - but the advertising assistance with it is greatly appreciated.
